The richness of taste from the vine

Wine is our passion, so we want to provide our users with the best-selected liquors from the best grapes from different wine regions around the world.

The countries where the best wines are produced are located in different climate zones. As with coffee, the taste and aroma of a wine also depends on where it comes from. The climate and the types and varieties of the wine plant determine the acidity and aroma of the drink. The long-standing traditions of fruit cultivation, barrel aging, and the quality classifications of countries regarding the cultivation of grape varieties mean that each wine can have a completely different taste and quality, depending on the country from which it comes. Check out the types of wines by country!

Transparent wine catalog

We've categorizedgood quality wines on the Vineyard website by wine color, taste, country of origin, region of origin, varietal, price and bargain. Our offer includes sweet, dry, red and white wines, from Italy, France, USA, Spain, but also from Poland. Local Polish wineries also offer delicious products from fruit grown in Poland.

Types of wine - wine colors

The basic division of wines concerns their color. The three most popular, base colors are white, red and rosé. Red wines are made from red or black grapes. The light red or dark red hue comes from the pigment of the fruit skins, which is released during the maceration process. White wine (bianco) is made from white grapes, but can also be created from dark grapes(blanc de noir) - the liquid thus pressed is separated from the skins and subjected to fermentation. This is how some of the champagnes are made, for example.

Is rosé wine then a mixture of red and white? No, it is made from red grapes, and the maceration time of the skins is shortened. This results in a pink color and a unique aroma. The color of the wine depends on the type of grape, the method of vinification and age, among other factors. The red color for red wine can vary greatly - from brick-red, ruby to very dark and intense. White wines can be almost transparent, straw, yellow, gold or brown. Some types of fruit produce dark liquors (Syrah), others light or almost pink (Pinot Noir). The older the white wine is, the darker it becomes, while red wine becomes lighter. It is also worth remembering that sometimes the style and color of a wine is also determined by the coupage - that is, several grape varieties combined according to the winemaker's vision. The winemaker then can experiment with different variants, so as to achieve the desired effect.

What flavor of wine to choose?

Another element of classification is flavor, that is, the sugar content in the bottle. Usually white wine is slightly more acidic and refreshing than red wines. We distinguish between sweet, semi-sweet, semi-dry and drywines. Each of them has a different sedimentary sugar content, which remains in the bottle after the fermentation process, per liter of liquor. The most common question of sugar content is as follows:

  • dry wine - up to 10 g of sugar per 1 liter
  • semi-dry wine - from 10 g to 30 g of sugar per 1 l
  • semi-sweet wine - from 30 g to 60 g per 1 l
  • sweet wine - more than 60 g per 1 l

Each country and region sets its own criteria for the sweetness of wine. In addition to sugar, the alcohol content, the level of pectin or tannins also affect the sensation of sourness of the drink. But also additional fruit notes in the wine.

Moreover, the choice of wine for a dish is also important. Depending on what is on our menu, a different character of wine will be appropriate to accompany the plate. A good wine for red meat should be characterized by full structure and tannins, lighter red or white wines should be sought with white meat, and for fish and seafood - light whites. A low alcohol wine with a touch of sweetness will go perfectly with a spicy dish. The best wine for dessert, on the other hand, should be sweet.

Choosing versatile and good wines full of body and yet mild character will reconcile many tastes, and at the same time such wines can be"drunk solo". Such wines are also an excellent choice for parties with friends or weddings, guaranteeing the pleasure of tasting to most of those present.

Maturation in barrels, in addition to influencing the taste, also determines its longevity, so when choosing a wine for your cellar, it is worth paying attention to the time the alcohol has spent in contact with oak. A more mature wine also blends deliciously with fatter, more complex dishes. However, the limiting age at which a beverage reaches its full potential varies from bottle to bottle, depending on the time spent in the barrel or the type and quality of the grapes used.

Other wine classifications - types of wine varietals

A wine strain is otherwise known as a grape variety, which was used in production. Each strain has certain distinctive characteristics and features, such as:

  • color and size of fruit and juiciness
  • leaf shape and strength of growth/time of ripening
  • The level of adaptation to the region's climate and soil, resistance to disease

The type of soil, access to sunlight and water, climate and temperature or even the way it is grown all have an impact on the fruit that will grow and from which wine will be made. Red wine strains include, for example, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah or Gamay. In the case of white wine, on the other hand, we have, for example, the strains Chardonnay, Muscat, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio. Each of them tastes different, which intensifies the desire to get acquainted with each bottle - try some of the world's best wines at Vinesia and see for yourself.
