White wines have been produced for more than 2,500 years, its production is widespread throughout the world, in European countries, America, Oceania, and to a lesser extent in Africa and Asia for climatic and religious reasons.

Strains among semi-sweet white wines

There are a great many strains from which white wines are made. Among the most well-known is, of course, chardonnay, which comes from Burgundy and can be grown in the most diverse regions of the world, including France, Australia, the United States, South Africa. The second most popular strain from which white wines are made is savignon blanc, which originated in France, but has become very widespread in the so-called New Wine Country, that is, New Zealand, Australia, the United States. Another equally popular varietal is riesling, which leads the way mainly in German vineyards.

As with red wines, white wines are divided by sugar content into dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet and sweet. Today we'll take semi-sweet white wines for a spin. In order for a producer to indicate on the label that his wine is semi-sweet, it must contain up to 45 grams of sugar per liter. Semi-sweet white wines are increasingly popular among Polish consumers, who find dry wines too acidic and tannic, and sweet wines too heavy and bland. Semi-sweet white wines can be made from almost any white varietal, but there are some that are more suitable for this, such as the aforementioned riesling or gewürztraminner, which has the ability of high sugar concentration. Semi-sweet white wines are also often made from local strains, for example, endemic Georgian varieties such as rkatsiteli or tsolikouri (found in our range), as well as solaris, hibernal and johanniter.

Semi-sweet white wines also come in sparkling versions, such as the Cantine Ferrari Demi-Sec Gift Box Trento DOC wine available in our range, or the Cami De Flors Semi-Seco Cava Metode Tradicional. The category is also represented by beautiful champagnes, such as Moët&Chandon Nectar Imperial and Georges Lacombe.

Characteristics of semi-sweet white wines

Semi-sweet white wines are balanced and delicate, but they are also characterized by a pronounced but not overwhelming sweetness. Often this sweetness is balanced by fairly high acidity. They are also usually very aromatic, the dominant aromas being fresh fruits and white flowers. Thanks to their sizable sugar content, semi-sweet white wines have incredible potential for foodpairing-they will work well as an aperitif, but will also perfectly enhance the taste of fruit desserts or ice cream. They can also be combined with roasted white meat or roasted vegetables, and a good suggestion will also be the combination of semi-sweet white wine with distinctive hard cheeses.

This type of wine is also often chosen as a wedding wine. Most often we do not know the wine preferences of wedding guests, so choosing semi-sweet or semi-dry white wines is the "safest" option. Precisely because this beverage will suit most tastes, it will be perfect for enhancing various other events, such as family gatherings or summer parties with friends. For the same reason, it is also a great choice for a gift, as we can be sure that the recipient will be pleased with this bottle.
