Among the types of sparkling wines in addition to the most famous champagne, you will find many others min. prosecco, cava, sekt. Each is distinguished by a different region of production and ultimately taste.

ChampagneThe undisputed

king of sparkling wines. The original champagne comes from Champagne, in the northeastern part of France. The cold climate makes vine-growing conditions extremely difficult, hence the grapes used for Champagne: chardonnay, pinot noir, pinot mmeunier must be strong and robust enough. Production is based on the Champagne method, i.e. double fermentation with the second already taking place directly in the bottle. All this contributes to the unique character of the wine and exceptional saturation of bubbles. It is not without reason that champagne is drunk mainly to celebrate exceptional achievements, which emphasizes how difficult and arduous its production is and full of adversity. Prices for original champagne start at 100zl.

Italian sparkling winesProsecco

is by far the most popular alcoholic beverage of recent years. Its low price and pleasant refreshing bubbles have decided that it wins over other spirits. Prosecco originates from Italy, in the Veneto region, and is made from a grape called grela. The flavors that dominate when tasted are pear, apple, floral notes, citrus and cream. The level of sweetness depends on the marking on the bottles: brut means dry wine, extra dry is understood as semi-sweet. Prosecco is a sparkling wine from Italy, whose bubbles, unlike champagne, were created not in bottles, but in large vats. The sparkling wine is poured under pressure into bottles. This method of production is referred to as the charmata method, which is much cheaper than the champagne method. As a result, the price of prosecco sparkling wine is lower and starts from as little as PLN 20-25. For this amount you will get a decent bubbly with a light and refreshing character. The higher the price of sparkling wine, the deeper and more intense the taste experience.

In Italy we can also find wines produced by secondary fermentation, which takes place in bottles min. Franciacorta from Lombardy. It differs from champagne in its origin, length of maturation on the lees (18 months), less frequent use of wine sweetening (dosage) and the possibility of using pinot blanc vines. Lambrusco, beloved by consumers, is famous for its intense red color and sweetness. Increasingly, we can find white or all-dry on the market. Lambrusco is a very low price (starting at 25zl), aromas of cherries, a slightly bitter finish and extraordinary versatility when composing with food. Leading the way among sweet bubbles is Italian moscato d'asti from Piedmont. In addition to sweetness, it is characterized by rich fruit flavors, lightness and low alcohol content (up to 5%). We particularly recommend La spinetta Miscato d'asti.

Spanish cavaProduced

mainly in Catalonia, in the Penedes region. It is closest in taste to champagne. They share the same production method, the traditional method, where sparkling wine acquires its character by maturing on the lees in the bottle. It is distinguished from champagne by a much warmer production climate, which allows the grapes to reach higher sugar levels and a shorter maturation time (9 months on the lees is enough). For the production of cava, 3 types of grapes are mostly used: macabeo, parallada and xarello. As a result, the wine is very fruity, approachable in flavor and well-priced.

Serving and pairing with foodFans of

sparkling wines say that you can always find occasions to open a bottle full of bubbly. A dry one works well as an aperitif to whet the appetite, while a sweeter one is a companion to desserts. The most important thing is to serve it well chilled. As for the glasses, it is best to choose the tall, slender ones (in them we can easily dazzle the eye with escaping bubbles and the aroma will not air out too quickly). Combining them with food, we can let our imagination run wild - sparkling wine can cope with most dishes. A dry, creamy one works well with seafood and appetizers, while sweeter ones will lift the weight of slightly spicier, more seasoned meals. In specialty stores, ask an advisor for advice or focus on recommended items by other customers. The most important thing is to try and look for your favorite sparkling taste.
