India and China are considered the cradle of rum, while it was brought to Europe by the Arabs. In the 17th century, mass production of the drink began in the Caribbean Sea region, which is why the island of Barbados is considered by many to be its homeland. Nowadays, rum production develops mainly in Italy, Portugal, Spain and South America.

There are two varieties of rum: heavy and light. The first are from Jamaica or British Guiana - they are the so-called Demerara Rum. The second, with a relatively weaker aroma, comes from Cuba and is aged in wine barrels for 3 to 10 years. They differ in the method of distillation and maturation in the barrel. White rum is characterized by a light, pungent flavor. Gold rum is almost always with added caramel. Black rum has much more caramel and/or molasses in it. Flavored rums are characterized by lower alcohol content and citrus and coconut flavors. Overproof rum is characterized by a very high alcohol content (from 60% to 80%) and a pungent flavor, and finally, it is worth mentioning aged rum, or so-called Premium Aged, which is a blend of several aged rums

.Rum - productionWe have

several ways to produce rum, which is created through the process of alcoholic fermentation and molasses distillation. More specifically, we can have spontaneous fermentation (using yeast and microorganisms), controlled fermentation (using laboratory yeast) and controlled continuous fermentation (in a continuously filled fermentation vat with continuous addition of molasses). The next step is distillation, while there is no standard method. Many producers use a rectification column or alembics. The final step is barrel aging. The aging period and the type of barrel are decided by the producers. However, it is said that real rum should be aged a minimum of one year, and among the barrels that work well are those made of oak after Bourbon

.Rum - properties and tastingMany

studies show that rum reduces the risk of heart attacks, has antibacterial properties, relieves arthritis and increases immunity. It can be consumed with ice or in the form of shots. It is also an excellent complement to drinks such as Pina Colada, Mojito or Cuba Libre

.Rum - priceThe price of

rum depends on age. Drinks less than 8 years old will get you less than 100 zlotys, for rums between 8 and 12 years old you will pay from 100 to 300 zlotys. Rums over 25 years old are an expense of the order of 350 zlotys to even 1400 zlotys

.Rum - Winezja.plWe especially

recommend tasting El Dorado 5 Years Old Rum. It delights with its unique taste. In the nose perceptible notes of spice, cinnamon and inflamed sugar. In the taste, an unusual richness of spices broken by the sweetness of toffee and caramel. Since 1998, El Dorado Rum has won top awards at competitions including a silver medal and the title of best in its class in 2011 at the London International Wine & Spirit Competition.
