It was created in the 17th many in the former Netherlands (today Belgium and the Netherlands). It was invented by Dr. Franciscus de la Boë, at the time for use in medicine. The set of herbs and aromas it contained was to be a cure for all diseases. At the time it was called genever. In turn, it became popular in England, under the abbreviated name Gin, where it reached mainly through William III. Nowadays, it is the British who are famous for the production of this liquor, which does not at all mean that only there it is produced

.How

is it made

?

Gin is produced on the basis of pure spirit obtained from natural ingredients, with a strength of min. 96%, which includes cereals, molasses or grapes. Producers rarely make it themselves - most often they buy from outside. The next step is with the manufacturer, and can be done in three ways. The first is to add the essence of juniper extract, herbs and spices to the spirit, where it is diluted to a minimum of 37.5% using water. Another way can be to re-distill the spirit, where the aforementioned ingredients are added before the process begins. A third option is to macerate juniper berries and other ingredients in alcohol until the final result is achieved

.Types of ginAccording

to connoisseurs of this drink, the best gin is considered to be London Dry Gin (about 45% alcohol), which is an excellent base for drinks. The composition includes juniper berries, coriander, ginger, citrus fruit peels, cinnamon and herbs. It is characterized by a refreshing and citrus flavor. Its name does not at all indicate its place of origin, but it is believed that only the British one is worthy of consumers' attention. The opposite of London Dry Gin is Plymouth Gin, which delights with its mild and sweet taste and medium aromatic citrus notes. The name originally referred to the coastal region of Plymouth. Today the brand is owned by Black Friars Distillery, the only distillery left in the city. Old Tom Gin is sweet and is very rarely produced today. However, it is worth mentioning because it has preserved the taste of gins that were drunk in England 300 years ago. Its name comes from the world's first vending machine for the sale of spirits. Other types include Aged Gin (additionally aged in a barrel) and Sloe Gin (gin-based liquor)

.Gin on Vineyard.co.ukThe classic of the

genre on Vineyard.co.uk is represented by Rokeby's Half Crown Gin, priced at PLN 69.99, which was produced using the traditional London method. This original gin features an individual palette of aromas and flavors thanks to which it won a silver medal at the International Spirit Challenge. We also recommend checking out the Koval Dry Gin, priced at PLN 179.00. This is an example of a unique liquor that is kosher, organic, and packaged in a beautifully hand-decorated bottle. The aroma is warm and floral, with lots of juniper, cones, rose, lavender and vanilla. On the palate it's fresh, and the tasting itself is an extraordinary pleasure.
