In the homes of magnates, noblemen and burghers, tinctures - cherry liqueurs, nut liqueurs or plum liqueurs - created on the basis of family recipes were served.

Old Polish tinctures were not always made only on the basis of fresh fruit. Herbal tinctures with honey or tinctures made from dried fruits were also prepared. Such tinctures usually required 25-70 percent alcohol for preparation. After the tincture preparation process, it was best to store them in barrels in the cellar or buried underground. The alcohol gained strength in the barrel for up to 3 years. Recipes for tinctures varied, and so did their strength. Some were weak, others strong, some sweet, others dry. Tincture was made from rosehip, chokeberry, apricot or cherry. Traditional homemade tinctures are also made today from seasonal fruits.
