Geographical and climatic aspect of the Touriga Nacional strainDescribed

and praised as early as the 13th century, its popularity has dimmed over the years. It only regained it through breeding efforts and the efforts of researchers in the 20th century. On the largest scale Touriga Nacional is grown in Portugal, although it can also be found in other countries, for example in Spain - in the Priorat region. It is also gaining more and more recognition in the New World countries: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa (87 hectares of vineyards planted with Touriga Nacional, mainly in Karru), the United States (the most cultivated is in the San Joaquin Valley in California), Brazil and Argentina. Touriga Nacional bushes are very hardy and prolific, requiring frequent and heavy pruning as they grow luxuriantly. The berries themselves are small and have a thick skin, which makes the juice intensely flavorful and aromatic, and contains a lot of tannins. Touriga is the primary varietal used in the production of world-famous port wines, especially those of the highest quality. It is rarely found solo, usually in couplets with, for example, Syrah, Cabernet Savignon. In the production of Porto often used, along with Touriga Nacional, such strains as Tinta Roriz , Touriga Francesa, Tinta Cao, Tinta Barroca.

NomenclatureOther

Characteristics of the Touriga Nacional gra

peThe Touriga Nacional grape makes outstanding wines. They are characterized by their dark, black-red or purple color. The bouquet of aromas in these wines is very complex and intense, dominated by dark, ripe fruits - black berries, blackberries, cherries, blueberries, black currants, as well as dried plums, leather, notes of cocoa, herbs and licorice in the background. In the mouth, it's very extractive, with a firm structure and clear, elegant tannins. Wines from Touriga Nacional impress with a perfect harmony of acidity and sweetness. They have high aging potential and retain their longevity for a long time. They mature well in barrels and also have a high alcohol content

.Pairing Touriga Nacional wines with foodWines

from the Touriga Nacional varietal are incredibly culinary. They will go well with beef and pork meat dishes, as well as pasta with tomato sauce. They can be successfully served with grilled dishes, both meat and vegetable. Wines dominated by this varietal will also taste great with hard cheeses, as well as meaty appetizers, such as prosciutto ham or chorizo sausage. As sweet fortified wines, port wines will pair perfectly with desserts, such as apple pie with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate. Port is also a great companion to blue cheese
