WhiskyWhisky is one of the most common types of spirits. It is created by distilling grain mash and then aged in oak barrels. Historians trace the origins of whisky to Ireland, where aqua vitae, used for medicinal purposes, was produced as early as the 7th century.

Whisky is made in many regions of the world, but the most famous are produced in Scotland, Ireland, the US and Japan. Distillates from Israel, India, Sweden, France or Canada are also becoming popular.

Scotch whisky being the most popular association with this type of alcohol, can be produced from 100% barley malt, referred to as Single Malt, or in a blended version with other grains, referred to as blended. The minimum maturation period for such whisky is three years. Among the esteemed Scottish producers, it is worth noting Glenmorangie, Tomatin, Glencadam, Ardbeg or Tullibardine, for example.

The second most popular location in Europe famous for whisky production is Ireland. Produced from barley malt, they are matured for two years in oak barrels and undergo distillation three times. Outstanding Irish whiskey is presented by Boann distillery with its The Whistler line.

American whiskeys are famous, for example, for the production of corn distillates, known as Bourbon, as well as distillates created in the state of Tennessee called Tennesse Whiskey. Among the representatives of high-quality American spirits, Koval enjoys excellent reviews.
VodkaVodka is one of the flagship products in Polish alcohol production, but it is consumed and enjoyed all over the world, where it comes in various forms. Vodka is an alcoholic beverage based on a mixture of rectified spirit and water. The minimum alcohol content is 37.5%, and the base material is most often grain or potatoes. In addition to traditional pure vodkas, luxury and choice vodkas are famous for quality vodkas - such as krupnik, wormwood, cherry vodka, żubrówka or, prized for its time spent in an oak barrel, starka.
GinGin is a distillate based on a mash of juniper berries, with a minimum alcohol content of 35%. The most common are Dry Gin and London Dry Gin. The most popular form of gin consumption is a drink with tonic.

RumRum

is an alcoholic distillate made from fermented sugar cane juice or molasses. Among rums, a distinction is made:
  • White rum - sometimes also called "silver" - a silver, unbarrelled rum with a simple flavor and sweet taste, often used in cocktails
  • Golden - rum with a richer bouquet and barrel notes, resulting from aging in oak
  • Dark - characterized by an intense flavor and aroma, sometimes called "black" rum
  • Aromatized - "spiced" rums are full of aromatic notes resulting from the additives used, including oranges or spices
  • Overproof - rums with a high alcohol content, reaching up to 80%

BrandyBrandy

is a wine distillate, usually aged in oak barrels, traditionally consumed after a meal. Depending on the aging time, brandies can have different designations - VS referring to brandies aged a minimum of two years in barrel, VSOP - aged a minimum of four years, and XO - spending a minimum of six years in oak barrels. In addition, Brandy de Jerez has its own classification, according to which basic brandy is aged for six months, Reserva lives up to one year in barrel, while Gran Reserva is aged as long as three years.

CognacCognac

is a special type of brandy produced in the Cognac region of France. Appellation rules determine the exact production process and the region in which the distillate can be produced. The predominant grape varietal used to make Cognac is Ugni Blanc. A minimum of two distillations and two years of aging in oak barrels are required. As with brandy, cognac is also subject to classification depending on the length of maturation:
  • VS - requires a minimum of two years in barrel
  • VSOP - a minimum of four years in barrel
  • XO - in 2018 the minimum time in barrel was extended to 10 years for this designation

ArmagnacArmagnac

is a brandy-type spirit, this time sourced from the Armagnac region in Gascony, the southwestern region of France. Among the grape varietals used are Ugni Blanc, Colombard and Folle Blanche. Distilled once, it is subject to a classification of labels relating to length of maturation:
  • VS - a minimum of one year in oak barrel
  • VSOP - a minimum of four years in barrel
  • XO - at least ten years in barrel

CalvadosCalvados

is an apple distillate produced in Normandy. As with armagnac and cognac - calvados is a proprietary name for products created within the Calvados department along with application to appellation production rules. The minimum aging time in oak barrels is two years.

TinctureTinctures

are popular alcoholic beverages made from fruits, herbs or flowers, oscillating between 40-45 percent. The name "tinctures" is seen in the category of a generic name referring to the palette of alcohols produced by maceration. Among the categories of tinctures we distinguish herbal spirits (e.g. Benedictine), honey spirits (e.g. krupnik), fruit spirits (cherry liqueur, quince liqueur) or spiced spirits (aniseed liqueur).
LiqueursLiqueurs are sweet-tasting high-alcohol drinks, usually based on fruits, herbs or special additives. They are perfect as an ingredient in cocktails and drinks, but can also be used as an accompaniment to desserts, ice cream, and can also be consumed solo.

Popular and frequently chosen liqueurs include, for example, egg liqueurs - including the very good Ovovit from J.A. Baczewski. The same manufacturer also offers excellent fruit and herb liqueurs - such as wormwood. Irish Merrys cream liqueurs, delicious with ice cream as well as tasted without additives, also enjoy recognition.

Bitter orange liqueurs are also exceptionally popular, such as Aperitivo Seveneight, an essential ingredient in the summer's hit Spritz, a cocktail that is a combination of Prosecco, liqueur and sparkling water, served with ice cubes and an orange slice. Another well-known citrus liqueur that is often found in drinks and glasses is Limoncello, an Italian liqueur made from lemons.

Strong alcohols for a giftStrong alcohols

are not only exquisite liquors, proving themselves both at dinner and at gatherings with friends, but also an excellent choice for a gift. Elegant chic and insensitivity to the passing of time mean that strong spirits can spend many years in the recipient's cellar, either forming part of a collection or waiting for the right moment of celebration. In the category of the most frequently chosen alcohol for gifts are above all distillates matured in oak barrels - such as whisky, brandy or cognac. The exceptional quality of premium vodkas also makes them a frequent and proven choice for gifts. Interestingly, very interesting spirits of the right class can be found even in the neighborhood of 50 zlotys.

Described online spirits can help in choosing the perfect bottle - on the pages of each product there are descriptions, and under them there are opinions of users who have had the opportunity to taste individual drinks.
