Tinta Barroca is one of the primary varieties for port production and brings structure, alcohol and bouquet to the wine. The variety is approved for Douro appellation wines and regional wines from the Tras-os-Montes and Varosa areas. It is combined with varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cao, Tinta Francesa, among others.

It is also found in varietal wines, which, however, are accused of lacking complexity and sufficient acidity. These inadequacies prove useful for softening wines that are too expressive

.With which dishes to combine wines from the Tinta Barroca varietal?

Due to its highly complex flavor and enticing qualities, Tinta Barroca is most often recommended for meat dishes, with which it pairs best.

In some places, such as Africa and the Middle East, Tinta Barroca is usually paired with steaks and grilled vegetables, while in the United States it is often served with perfectly roasted and grilled Churrasco beef.
