Characteristics of wines from the Sangiovese grapeSangiovese

is characterized by a fair amount of tannins and pronounced acidity, accompanied by aromas of cherries, strawberries, roasted tomatoes and peppers, with a touch of herbs and spices. Depending on individual regions and grape-growing sites, the wines are distinguished by further nuances.

When reaching for a young, simple but interesting Sangiovese, it is worth getting acquainted with Chianti. It achieves its greatest potential in its indigenous sub-region, Chianti Classico, and when looking for a greater barrel influence, it is worth being tempted by a bottle with the Riserva classification, which means extended aging.

In response to the search for an excellent representative of the region's best wines, keep in mind the Montalcino area, where two classics come from - Rosso di Montalcino and the famous Brunello di Montalcino. Wines with full-bodied structure, earthy notes, expressive tannins and acidity, long-lived wines, ideal for maturing in the cellar, but also for enjoying it at memorable dinners with loved ones.

Sangiovese takes part in yet another very important development among Tuscan wines. We are talking about the so-called "supertoscans," i.e. IGT-grade wines that cannot be classified higher due to the use of varietals not allowed by appellation regulations. These typically include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc, all of which thrive on the terroir of Tuscan soil. As a result of using them with a touch of Sangiovese, winemakers are able to create small wine masterpieces that are worthy of the industry's highest honors. The first supertoscan was released by the Antinori family in 1971, and the wine was named "Tignanello." Today, it is a blend of Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and the wine can be found in our range
