Muscat a favorite wine of Cleopatra

Muscat is a varietal that has been known since ancient times. Muscat is a rich family of grapevines, whose representatives bear various names. The most important are Muscat de Frontignan, Muscat Blanc and Muscat d'Alexandrie (the oldest is said to have been loved by Cleopatra), Moscato d'Asti, Moscatel, Muscat Canelli, Muskateller.

Types - Muscat wine

The range of wine types produced from the Muscat grape varies from dry, to white semi-sweet, intensely sweet, from low alcohol sparkling wines to robust fortified dessert wines. Several regions produce Muscat-based dessert wine, which can contain up to 200 g/l of residual sugar with a syrup-like viscosity.

The range of Muscat wines is wide therefore the price of muscat ' wines also varies depending on the region and the type of liquor we choose. After all, a white wine from a reputable region, from a boutique production will have a higher value.

Characteristics of the strain

The Muscat grape is characterized by unusual fruitiness, light body, high sweetness and acidity and has a low alcohol content. The dominant aromas are lemon, tangerine, pear, orange blossom and capryfolium. As befits white wines, the taste is truly refreshing, tailored for summer evenings. Muscat wine is most often grown in Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Brazil, the US and Portugal. The region of production determines the later taste - Muscat wine from cool climates is a beverage dominated by lemon and tangerine in flavor, while Muscat wine from warm climates yields liquors with aromas of ripe melon and lychee.

Above all,white Muscat wines are orange blossom aromas combined with grape sweetness of sugars. That is why it comes out deliciously as muscat semi-sweet wine and muscat sweet wine.

Every country is a Muscat custom

The finest releases are made from Muscat de Frontignan. The most famous muscat blanc is moscato d'Asti, whose famous region, Piedmont, has long been famous for these exceptional wines. Moscato d'Asti is a delicate, light, sparkling wine, while Asti Spumante is a fuller wine with a higher alcohol content. The Alto Adige produces exceptional white wines with the scent of rose petals called Rosen and Goldenmuskateller.

In France, sweet fortified wines are made from this variety, bottles of which have an alcohol content of 15.5% , i.e. Muscat de Baumes-de-Venise, Muscat de Lunel, Muscat de Frontingan. Similar to them are the original wines from the Greek islands: Samos, Lemnos. The largest sweet wine of Austarlia Muscats o beverage from brown Muscat grapes. This variety is also used for the production of Moscatel de Valencia, Moscatel Tierra de Castilla and fortified Spanish Malaga, Bukkuram from Pantalleria in Italy, as well as Moldavian Muscat wine, especially valued by Polish consumers, who constantly choose Muscat wines among which sweet and semi-sweet white wines reign supreme.

Dry Muscat variants

Country of origin and region are among the key aspects that distinguish the styles of individual wines from a given varietal. The outstanding taste of dry Muscat, for example, is the Alsace region, where its delicate yet characterful notes make these wines extremely elegant and versatile spirits.

Outstanding wines from this grape are also made in Spain - the Navarra region or under the Montsant appellation in Catalonia, showing the full potential of Muscat.

Muscat - white wine for a gift

Due to their versatile and unique flavor, white wines from the Muscat varietal make an ideal gift. Due to the extraordinary range of choices, the dry palate will find a taste for itself, but also any proponent of sweetness will be satisfied with both the aromatic profile and sweetness in the wine by choosing variants of less dry Muscat, opting for bottles hiding, for example, white semi-sweet wine.

What to combine Muscat wine with

Muscat white wines will work well as an aperitif or in combination with Asian cuisine. Seafood, fish in sauce, white meats and a cheese board are also recommended combinations with this item. Semi-sweet and sweet white wines will go best with desserts.

The important thing to remember when pairing Muscat with a meal is to remember to pair semi-sweet or sweet white wine with dishes with sweet accents, but also those with savory accents, and to reach for the drier one with fatter and more acidic food.

Muscat wine - price

Depending on the bottle chosen, its value will also vary. A basic dry or white semi-sweet wine from the Muscat varietal can be found for as little as 35 zloty.

Bottles from renowned regions and appellations can reach 50-100 zlotys, but top-shelf wines enjoying greater prestige - such as the aforementioned Moscato d'Asti, whose flavor and aromas of flowers deliciously caress the palate - can reach prices exceeding 100 zlotys.
