Wine Chryseia DOC Douro 2018

Chryseia is a great wine from Portugal's excellent Douro region. The producer's experience, knowledge and love of wine guarantee the best quality liquor sealed under cork. Chryseia is a coupage of Portugal's two flagship varieties, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Its name means "golden" in the language of the ancient Greeks, and indeed - it is a real treasure.

The wine is elegant and harmonious, deep and complex. However, it will not surprise us with exceptional heaviness or sharpness - one could say that it is characterized by a perfect balance. The noble Portuguese tradition is combined in the wine with the rich tradition of Bordeaux, creating a modern style of wine. Tasting brings a pleasant aroma of cherries in liqueur and blackberries. On the palate, strong, ripe tannins delight. The whole is complemented by accents from aging in French barrels - sweet spices and vanilla.

Chryseia will go perfectly with red meats and aged cheeses. It is also a wine that represents the best qualities of the Douro region and is suitable as a gift for the wine cellar, where it can spend many more years.

Prats & Symington Vineyards

A partnership with the Prats family of Bordeaux began in 1999, launching the production of outstanding wines from the Douro. Prats & Symington's first wine was Chryseia 2000, which immediately gained national and international recognition. Since then, continuously Chryseia and the second label, Post Scriptum, have consistently appeared among the top-rated wines from the Douro.

Chryseia was the first Portuguese unfortified wine on Wine Spectator's annual list of the top 100 wines. In 2014, the 2011 Chryseia ranked third, the best among wines from the Douro on that list. Prats & Symington also produces wine from younger vines under the Prazo de Roriz label.

Prats & Symington wines are produced at one of the Douro's largest estates, the beautiful Quinta de Roriz. This historic winery dates back to 1565 and has long been renowned for the quality of its wines. The 42-acre Roriz vineyard is complemented by the 23-acre Quinta da Perdiz in the neighboring Rio Torto Valley. Quinta da Vila Velha, owned by James and Rupert Symington, is directly adjacent to Roriz, and some of its best grapes are also used to produce Chryseia and Post Scriptum.
