Wine Why Not: Nero D'Avola - Syrah

Nero d'Avola-Syrah DOC Sicilia Riserva is an excellent Italian red semi-dry wine from Sicily. It is extracted from grapes of the Nero d'Avola varietal. Sicilia's dominant characteristic is the excellent exposure of its vineyards. The vineyards are located on coastal plains with morainic and alluvial soils, as well as on hills and highlands with limestone and clay terroir. This is where the characteristic good minerality of the wines from these regions comes from due to the volcanic origin of much of the soil. Nero d'Avola-Syrah DOC Sicilia Riserva is a noticeably ruby red in the glass with violet hues. In the aromas, intense notes of violet and spice, ripe red fruits such as raspberry and cherry. On the palate it will be a warm, rich and round wine, well structured with fruity and spicy aromas and a persistent finish It will be ideal as an accompaniment to spicy dishes also those of pasta, red meat and mature cheese.
