Wine Isole e Olena Cepparello IGT Toscana

A flagship wine consisting of 100% Sangiovese, aged in French oak barrels. Over the years, Paolo de Marchi has refined his Cepparello, giving it more air and space during vinification and extending the time spent in oak from 12-14 months to 18-20 months. Although De Marchi began focusing on using better oak quality around 1993, the older age of the vineyards themselves has given Cepparello great finesse. The wine is made from the highest quality fruit, sourced from vineyards in Barberino Val d'Elsa in the northern part of Chianti Classico.

"This is a beautiful Cepparello with clarity and verve; it opens with dark cherries, blackberries, citrus, cumin, Thai basil and eucalyptus. What's really striking about this wine is not the first sensation of muscular tannin or ripe fruit suspended over spice - though all are impressive - but the sudden acidity on the long finish that comes seemingly out of nowhere and makes you want to drink more. - James Suckling

Isole e Olena Vineyard

Isole e Olena is one of the most important producers in the Chianti region of Italy. It is credited with helping to revive Chianti quality in the 1970s, and its flagship wine, Cepparello, is one of the best-known wines covered by the Super Tuscan designation.

The estate lies within the boundaries of Chianti Classico DOCG, a few hours' drive south of Florence in western Chianti. It was created from the purchase and consolidation of two neighboring properties - Isole and Olena - by the De Marchi family in the 1950s.
