Description Antinori Solaia Toscana I.G.T..

Solaia is one of the supertoscans, a vineyard located next to Tignanello. It is an original coupage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. It matures for two years in the Antinorich cellars - first one year in small oak barrels, then another in bottle. A chic of finesse and elegance. One of the best Italian wines from Tuscany.

Solaia is a 20-hectare vineyard with southwestern exposure, located at an altitude of 350-400 meters above sea level, with stony, hard limestone "alberese" soil and "galestro" - clay-limestone soil. The vineyard is located on the Tignanello estate. The Antinori family first produced this wine in 1978, and the initial blend consisted of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc (this was repeated in 1979 as well). In subsequent years, 20% Sangiovese was introduced and some adjustments were made in the ratio between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, until the current blend was established. Solaia is only produced in an exceptional vintage and was not produced in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984 and 1992.

Antinori Solaia Toscana I.G.T. 2017 wine reviews.

"Extremely restrained black currant fruit and ripe berry with hints of violet, clove and tobacco. I taste the wine again the next day-it shines with graphite minerality, leather and a touch of lemon thyme. On the palate, it's creamy and full-bodied, with refined and fleshy tannins, lively acidity and excellent balance. You wouldn't think that this wine was aged in 100% new French oak for 18 months due to the high concentration of fruit, although you can see the superior quality of the oak used. Always elegant." - Decanter

Marchesi Antinori Vineyard

Antinori is a wine company based in Tuscany that is one of the largest and best known in Italy. Its main business is in the Chianti Classico region, although the company has interests in various countries and produces some 20 million bottles a year on 150 labels.

The house's history dates back to the 14th century, after silk weavers moved to Florence and began cultivating vines. In 1900, Antinori added the Tignanello vineyard to his portfolio, and Niccolò Antinori and his son Piero began experimenting with then-unprecedented winemaking techniques and grape varieties. The first vintage of Tignanello was released in 1971.

From the sunniest part of the Tignanello hill comes Solaia Toscana IGT with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Franc. The fruit for the Marchese Antinori Riserva (90 percent Sangiovese) also comes from the Tignanello vineyard.
