Description Chateau Quintus 2011

Château Quintus Saint-Emilion Grand Cru AOC 2011, is an excellent wine from the Bordaux region, from the Saint-Emilion appellation. This dry red wine was created from the varietals: Merlot 50% and Cabernet Franc 50%, its alcohol content is 13.5%. The wine was matured in French oak barrels, including 40% in new barrels. Annual production is 1460 cases. Maturation potential is 2021-2030.

The wine is characterized by a beautiful deep red color with violet highlights. The nose is intense with notes of ripe black fruits and cocoa, in addition, there are notes of raspberries, spring flowers and herbs, mixed with aromas of flint and undergrowth. The medium to full body is surprisingly complex and silky smooth.

Chateau Quintus wine reviews

"A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it has a dark blue/purple color. Nose with abundant character of raspberries, spring flowers and herbs, mixed with notes of flint and undergrowth. Medium to full body, surprisingly complex and silky smooth. Formerly known as Tertre Daugay until 2010, this Château was purchased by the Dillon family, which also owns Chateau Haut-Brion and Chateau La Mission-Haut-Brion. The impressive 2011 vintage is the first for which the Dillon family is fully responsible." - Wine Advocate-Parker

Chateau Quintus Vineyard

Château was purchased by the Dillon family, which owns other internationally acclaimed vineyards i.e. Chateau Haut-Brion and Chateau La Mission-Haut-Brion. The impressive 2011 vintage is the first whose production process was in the hands of the Dillon family. Thus, the wine has taken its rightful parallel position alongside the prestigious white and red wines of Château Haut-Brion and Château La Mission Haut-Brion, becoming the 5th child of an illustrious family. The Gallo-Romans, the historical founders of the Saint-Emilion vineyards, had the custom of calling their fifth child Quintus (fifth). Therefore, the then-owner of Domaine Clarence Dillon decided to pay tribute to his glorious predecessors by using the name Château Quintus.

The Chateau Quintus vineyard is located on a limestone hill of 62 meters, situated on the southwestern plateau of Saint - Emilion. The Chateau Quintus estate is adjacent to other prized estates in the Saint - Emilion region. The grounds on which Chateau Quintus is located are considered the best in the area. Good land and a favorable location determine the uniqueness of this remarkable terroir. The land form itself is characterized by a layer of limestone on the numerous southern slopes of the plateau, transitioning north of the estate to a varied mix of sands and clay gravels.

Vines with an average age of 30 years cover an area of 28 hectares. 66% of the land is devoted to growing the Merlot varietal, 26% to Cabernet Franc, and 8% to Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is also famous for its breathtaking scenery, surrounded by a high natural promontory. At its heart is a beautiful view of both the village and the entire Saint-Emilion valley.

Saint-Emilion appellation

It was first officially classified in 1954. It is one of Bordeaux's largest wine appellations, producing more wine than Listrac, Moulis, St Estephe, Pauillac, St. Julien and Margaux combined. Many of the region's best vineyards are located atop steep limestone slopes near the town.
