White Semi-sweet Spain
It is an excellent alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio wines - the wines are fresh, crisp, with good, clear acidity and are ideal for tasting all year round. It is a remarkable varietal that definitely stands out from other white varieties and is one of Spain's flagship varietals. We invite you to explore the list of wines from the Verdejo varietal, where detailed descriptions, high-quality photos and reviews of our customers will help you choose the right bottle

.Origin of the varietalThe origins of

Verdejo remain unclear. It is likely that the strain originated in Spain's Castilla Leon region and is native to the Rueda region, but it is possible that Verdejo wines have their roots in northern Africa, from which the strain arrived in Rueda in the 11th century. It is in the Rueda region that the vine has excellent conditions - a dry, continental climate, limestone and mineral soils, daily temperature fluctuations and low-quality soils. All this contributes to the fruit's best expression and the production of full-bodied, highly aromatic white Verdejo wines. The fruit is harvested at night due to the lower temperatures, which prevents oxidation and helps preserve the acidity and freshness, noticeable later in Verdejo wines. The region is home to small farms that have sustainably farmed vines for centuries, and Rueda has been an appellation since 1980

.Characteristics of the varietalVerdejo

yields subtle but expressive and remarkable white wines with flavors of lemon, lime, grapefruit, grass, fennel and lemongrass and melon. Unlike most white wines, Verdejo wines have aging potential and improve in the bottle several years after a given vintage is released for sale, yielding accents of toast and almond while retaining a distinctive acidity. Bitter notes of grass and dill appear on the finish. Verdejo wines are an excellent option for those looking for an inexpensive wine, but one that is of good quality and surprises with its flavor and aroma profile, whether for tasting solo or with a meal

.For

a mealVerdejo

wines

pair well with food. Quite high acidity and bitter herbal notes complement perfectly with food. When serving light dishes, such as salads with a dressing based on olive oil and lemon juice, vegetables, fresh cheeses or seafood, it is best to choose Verdejo wines that are young, fresh, non-barrelled. However, having a bottle of wine several years old with barrel interference - it will be perfect for meals with more cream and thicker sauces, maybe even with a little coconut.

Verdejo wines are loved by those who have already tasted them. Their versatility is their advantage - they will be perfect as a companion for gatherings with friends or family, drunk sauteed or with a meal, on a warm summer day, or in winter by the fireplace as a memory of warm, sunny days. It is the most popular Spanish wine sensational for consumption all year round.
