Description Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle

Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 2006 is an exceptional wine from an extraordinary place. It is made in the Rhone Valley, in the Hermitage appellation, which has the lowest harvest in the entire world. The grapes come from many tiny plots where they ripen in different terroirs, and this is what guarantees the extraordinary complexity and rarity of this wine.

Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 2006 is overflowing with the aromas of the Syrah varietal. Already at the outset it captivates with the scent of rosemary and tarragon. After a while, a subtle note of smoked bacon, herbs and tobacco arrives. All this is also found on the palate. The wine is velvety with a pleasant touch of spiciness. Full-bodied finesse with notes of licorice, coffee, ripe currants, raspberries and cherries. The finish is silky, refined and elegant. This is an exceptional wine that was aged for 15 months in oak barrel and has great aging potential.

Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle is the estate's flagship wine and one of the most sought-after wines from the Rhone Valley, fetching high prices at auction. Its name comes from the 13th-century church built on top of the Hermitage, which became the property in 1919.

Wine reviews of Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 2006

A wonderfully expansive bouquet of raspberries and cherries, complemented by smoky bacon, incense and Asian spices. Soft and sweet, with red and dark fruits coloring the palate, complemented by mocha, truffles and black olive. The red fruit flavor is intensified by the mineral-saturated, juicy finish. The wine offers captivating clarity and depth, as well as exceptional complexity and persistence. - Vinous

The 2006 Hermitage la Chapelle offers a classic, smoky La Chapelle bouquet with plenty of fruit and full-bodied richness. The wine impresses with its density and sweet tannins. This tasting was certainly the best I've had, as this wine often shows much more rustic character. - Wine Advocate, Parker

Paul Jaboulet Aîné Vineyard

It is believed that wine in this region was produced by the Romans and perhaps even the Greeks, but it was Antoine Jaboulet's planting in 1834 and focus on quality that made this region one of the world's premier wine producing regions. After his death, the land was passed on to his sons Henri and Paul, who then gave the company its name - Paul Jaboulet Ainé (Ainé means elder in French). The company was passed down from generation to generation, growing and expanding into other appellations along the Rhone Valley.

Starting with a small plot of land in Hermitage, they now have 120 hectares and produce excellent wines from twenty-six other appellations, including Cornas, Crozes-Hermitage, Gigondas, Côtes Rotie, Condrieu and Chateauneuf-du-Pape. They also produce some of the best wines from the Côtes du Rhone, with Parellèle 45.
