Description Le Dragon de Quintus 2014

Le Dragon de Quintus 2014 - is an excellent dry red wine from the Bordeaux region of the AOC Saint - Emilion appellation. It is a blend of varietals: Merlot 77% and Cabernet Franc 23%. It was matured in French oak barrels, of which 30% of the wine was stored in new barrels. Le Dragon de Quintus is the second wine of Château Quintus. Its annual production is 1,900 cases of 12 bottles - adding to its uniqueness. The wine has aging potential: 2021 - 2027.

The 2014 Le Dragon de Quintus has a very expressive bouquet with extremely pleasant notes of raspberries and cherries, and has retained a slightly floral character. Dried rose petals also appear, and red berry fruits are combined with orange peel and a subtle scent of marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied, with red cherries and intense strawberry flavors, with subtle notes of orange peel in the finish. The texture is smooth, the whole lovely and extremely attractive.

The climate and weather conditions for the 2014 vintage were generally assessed positively. The serene spring was conducive to a good start of vegetation, not very favorable turned out to be the middle of summer, which slowed down the ripening of the grapes, fortunately, the Indian summer came to the rescue of the harvest. September brought beautiful weather, dry, sunny, with temperatures up to 30 degrees C. Combined with cool temperatures at night, the grapes had perfect conditions for ripening, and when they reached full maturity, they were harvested and transferred to vats.

Wine reviews of Le Dragon de Quintus 2014

"The 2014 Le Dragon de Quintus retained the slightly floral bouquet that I observed when tasting the wine from barrel. In addition, dried rose petals and red berry fruits appear. They are combined with orange peel and a subtle scent of marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied, with red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, with a smooth texture with an orange peel motif returning on the finish." - Wine Advocate-Parker

"Very attractive aromas of strawberry and fresh mushrooms with a hint of herbs. Body medium to full-bodied. Silky tannins and a spicy finish. Citrus acidity gives this wine a lively aftertaste." - James Suckling

Chateau Quintus Vineyard

The Château was purchased by the Dillon family, which owns other internationally acclaimed vineyards i.e. Chateau Haut-Brion and Chateau La Mission-Haut-Brion. The family owns two estates that have enjoyed high recognition and fame over the years. Together they make up Chateau Quintus. To underscore the producer's prestige and age-old tradition, it's worth mentioning that both vineyards were included in Saint-Emilion First Growths from 1868 to 1949 (Cocks et Feret) and have won prestigious awards including the Gold Medal for Saint-Emilion at the 1867 World Exhibition in Paris.

The Chateau Quintus vineyard is located on a limestone hill of 62 meters on the southwestern plateau of Saint - Emilion. The Chateau Quintus estate is adjacent to other prized estates in the Saint - Emilion region. The grounds on which Chateau Quintus is located are considered the best in the area. Good land and a favorable location determine the uniqueness of this remarkable terroir. The land form itself is characterized by a layer of limestone on the numerous southern slopes of the plateau, transitioning north of the estate to a varied mix of sands and clay gravels.

Vines with an average age of 30 years cover an area of 28 hectares. 66% of the land is devoted to growing the Merlot varietal, 26% to Cabernet Franc, and 8% to Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is also famous for its breathtaking scenery, surrounded by a high natural promontory. At its heart is a beautiful view of both the village and the entire Saint-Emilion valley.

Saint-Emilion appellation

It was first officially classified in 1954. It is one of Bordeaux's largest wine appellations, producing more wine than Listrac, Moulis, St Estephe, Pauillac, St. Julien and Margaux combined. Many of the region's best vineyards are located atop steep limestone slopes near the town.
