Description Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte Grand Cru Pessac Leognan Rouge AOC

The 2010 Château Smith Haut Lafite wine is another successful vintage. It is made from 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrel (65% new barrel). It contains 14.5% alcohol.

In the glass we find intense pomegranate, lots of aromas of dark fruits such as blackberries, dried plum, some herbs and tobacco. On the palate, rich, with balanced tannins and a touch of freshness. A long finish experience completes our picture of the wine.

We recommend serving this wine with red meat dishes: roast lamb, grilled or braised beef or game. It will also be an excellent complement to poultry dishes.

The 2010 Château Smith Haut Lafite wine has great aging potential (2021-2050), but is also suitable for drinking now. Before opening a bottle, we recommend that you contact our sommelier.

Reviews of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte Grand Cru Pessac Leognan Rouge AOC 2010 wine.

"The 2010 Smith Haut Lafitte, deep garnet in color, delivers notes of roasted plums, blackberries and dried mulberry with a touch of cigar box, new leather and a bouquet of herbs. The palate is full-bodied, with firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting a finish full of ripe fruit with hints of tea." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, March 2020

"The Cathiard family, owners of Smith-Haut-Lafitte, once again present an extraordinary wine. They think the 2010 is even better than the 2009 (I disagree, but only slightly). This wine has the precision of a laser. An extraordinary nose with subtle aromas of charcoal, spring flowers, creme de cassis, berry liqueur and wood. Full-bodied, stunningly concentrated, long, rich and moderately tannic, the wine is targeted for exceptionally long life-even 30-40 years." - Wine Advocate-Parker

Château Smith Haut Lafite Vineyard

Château Smith Haut Lafite is one of the few estates with its own cooperage. It was built in 1995 and allows it to produce the best quality barrels that perfectly match the wine produced at the Château.

At Smith Haut Lafitte, all work in the vineyard is geared toward the use of organic farming techniques and self-sufficiency. In fact, many of the farming techniques used are geared toward biodynamic farming techniques. Rainwater is recovered, wastewater is recycled, solar panels are installed, old vine cuttings are recycled into compost or used for heating. In fact, many of the agricultural techniques used are similar to biodynamics. Adding your own organic compost, protecting the soil, planting hedges and trees protect microorganisms. In addition, there are beehives on the property, while a horse is used to plow the vineyard.

Pessac-Leognan appellation

In 1986, a new appellation was created in Graves, based on the Pessac and Léognan regions. Pessac-Léognan has the best soils in the region, very similar to those in the Médoc, although the gravel depth is more variable. It is famous for great wines such as Chateau Haut-Brion, and Chateau Smith Haut Lafite.
