Description Château Pontet-Canet 2008

This exceptional dry red wine was made from Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (4%) and Petit Verdot (1%) varietals. Half of the wine was aged in new French oak barrels, 35% in concrete vats, and 15% of the wine was aged in one-year old French oak barrels. The wine has a very long maturation potential, estimated at 2021-2045.

It is characterized by an intense purple color, and rich aromas of sweet berries, blackberries and black currant fruit, enriched with graphite pencil shavings, subtle barbecue smoke and hints of forest floor. The structure is solid, the structure is heavy, and the whole is wonderfully varied and rich.

Wine reviews of Château Pontet-Canet 2008

"A candidate for best wine of the year! Pontet Canet 2008 boasts an intense purple color, and a wealth of aromas of sweet berries, blackberries and black currant fruit interspersed with graphite pencil shavings, subtle barbecue smoke and hints of forest floor. Powerful, with fabulous richness, texture and incredible freshness. Give it 5-8 years in the cellar and drink it for the next three decades. Bravo!" - Wine Advocate-Parker

Château Pontet-Canet Vineyard

Château Pontet Canet 2008 AOC, 5-eme Grand Cru Classe is an exceptional wine from the Bordeaux region, from a vineyard that was included in the most famous classification of growing areas in the Medoc from 1855. In this classification, the leading estates were divided into 5 categories: premier cru (first), deuxieme cru (second), troisieme cru (third), quatrieme cru (fourth) and cinquieme cru (fifth). This division has gone down in history as the most ambitious qualification of the quality of agricultural products. To the fifth belongs precisely the wine of Château Pontet Canet.

In 1895, Château manager Théophile Skawinski built a unique cellar, with oak vats filled by gravity using a wooden platform on the first floor that could move on rails. In 2005, the room was restored, renovated according to the principles adopted by Skawinski, but this time the cellar was also equipped with concrete vats.

The vineyard is planted in a ratio of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, which produces Labastide Dauzac wine. The four-acre plot in the Haut-Médoc supplies the fruit for the Dauzac wine, Château Labarde.

Pauillac is a bastion of traditional Bordeaux and the most important commune in the Medoc. It boasts three producers out of five in the Premier Grand Cru Classe. Decadent, rich and elegant wines are created here. The best of them are powerful, with well-marked tannins that allow for long maturation.
