Semi-dry

Semi-dry wines are a very important segment in the offerings of many producers. Consumers choose them mainly for their mild character and refreshing taste and fruitiness. It is also often associated with a prejudice against dry wines, which can seem heavy and complex. Semi-dry wines do not overwhelm with their sweetness, so it is much easier to appreciate the taste of dry wines in the future.

Sweet

Sweet wines are not yet very popular in our country, but nevertheless, the number of their fans is slowly growing. The reputation of sweet wines was spoiled by cheap, sweetened products, with which many of us still associate sweet wines today. Meanwhile, in order to make an excellent, naturally sweet wine, whose sugar comes only from the grapes, the winemaker has to work hard, by design far more than in the production of dry wines.

Semi-sweet

Wine has four basic flavors: dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet and sweet. Dry wines are the most popular in the world. They account for as much as 40% of production. Semi-sweet are only in third place. We, however, love such delicate sweetness. And in Poland it is semi-sweet wines that are ahead of dry ones. After all, they go well with many occasions.

Sparkling

Sparkling wine is a type of liquor enriched with carbon dioxide, which is formed naturally during the fermentation process (in the bottle or in tanks). Bubbles appear as a result of the yeast eating the sugar - in still wines they escape from the vat, in sparkling wines they are encapsulated and remain in the liquid. It should be noted that sparkling wine is not the same as carbonated wine, to which carbon dioxide is added artificially. The name champagne is reserved for a specific type of sparkling wine that meets a number of requirements. First, the wine must be produced in Champagne, northeastern France. Second, it is made from specific vines: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Further conditions include, among others, restrictions on the size of the crop, hand harvesting, adherence to juicing deadlines and much more. The most basic flavors of wine are probably familiar to everyone. As a reminder, we can distinguish between dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet and sweet wines. These categories of wine , that is, the taste is related to the sugar content. Dry wines have up to 1.5% (10 grams per liter), semi-dry from 1.5% to 4% (10 to 30 grams per liter), semi-sweet from 4% to 7.5% (30 to 60 grams per liter), while sweet wines have more than 7.5% sugar (60 grams per liter).

Dry wines

Dry wines are the most popular in Poland and around the world. They are considered elegant and versatile, thus they will work perfectly as a gift wine or a companion for lunch or dinner. It should be mentioned, however, that it is not the sugar content alone that determines how the wine tastes . Equally important (in the case of red wines) is the appropriate acidity and tannicity. The grape varietal used in wine production also affects the taste of the wine. Among the most popular strains of red wines we can distinguish: French Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo or heavily tannic Cabernet Savignon. Dry white wines are made from such varietals as the extremely popular Chardonnay, Savignon Blanc and Riesling, among others.

Semi-dry wines

Semi-dry wines are less popular than dry wines, but many consumers reach for them mainly for their mildness and harmony. In semi-dry wine, residual sugar reduces the perceived acidity, so the wine gains a subtle character while retaining fruitiness and refreshment. At the same time, there is not so much residual sugar that the sweetness in the wine is overwhelming and dominates the aromas. Semi-dry white wines are often characterized by flavors of ripe fruit, such as peaches or apricots. Semi-dry wine is a great choice for people who are not convinced by dry wines due to their strength, acidity, or tannicity.

Semi-sweet wines

Semi-sweet wines also have their supporters, due to their versatile taste. Both sweetness and acidity appear in them, while each of these flavors is not dominant - rather, they harmonize with each other. This makes them a good choice for people who are new to wine, due to their easy perception. In semi-sweet wines, in addition to a pleasant, delicate sweetness, there is also a lot of fruitiness. It's also worth mentioning that semi-sweet wines are not expensive, with prices often hovering around PLN 50. Only exceptional bottles happen to be more expensive. Semi-sweet wines are produced all over the world, but there are countries that are particularly associated with them. This is, for example, Georgia with its wines from the Saperavi (red wines) and Rkatstiteli (white wines) varieties. Germany, too, produces excellent semi-sweet Rieslings.

Sweet wines

The last group in the above division is sweet wines, and the number of their supporters continues to grow. Production of sweet wines requires quite a bit of experience and knowledge. Good quality sweet wines are made without adding sugar, and all the sweetness contained in the wine comes from the grapes. Residual sugar is kept in the wine by stopping fermentation by lowering the temperature. Sweet wines are usually not expensive, but bottles such as Hungarian Tokaj or French Sauternes are placed among premium wines due to their high quality and time-consuming production.

All these types of wine are valuable and have their supporters. Due to taste preferences, there is always something for everyone. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with our offer.
