What is Hennessy made of?

This unique cognac like any other brandy is alcohol distilled from wine. For the production of Hennessy cognac, white grape varieties are used, specifically three - Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano), Colombard and Folle-Blanche. The main role is played by the first of these, namely Ugni Blanc. The grapes from which the cognac is made come from four sub-regions of Cognac - Grande Champanage, Petie Champanage, Borderie and Fins Bois. It is worth mentioning that they are more bitter and acidic than those used in wine production.

Hennessycognac is made up of dozens and sometimes even a hundred distillates of the so-called eau-de-vie (water of life). To be called eau-de-vie alcohol must go through a process of double distillation in copper stills and mature for a minimum of two years before being used to make cognac. In addition to distillates, demineralized water is also used in production.

Types of Hennessy

The Hennessy brand offers different types of cognac from the most popular to luxury special editions.

The most popular is undoubtedly Cognac Hennessy V.S. (Very Special): The entry-level variant in the brand's portfolio consisting of more than 40 selected distillates aged for at least 2.5 years to as long as 8 years in wooden equally selected new oak barrels. It has intense fruit flavors, a pleasantly balanced structure and a spicy-vanilla finish.

Cognac Hennessy V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pale): More mature than V.S. and aged from 4-15 years. It has a richer flavor with notes of fruit, wood, vanilla, tobacco and spice, and the finish is spice-warming.

Cognac Hennessy X.O. (Extra Old): This is a distillate of the highest standard, aged for a minimum of 10 years, with the oldest distillates included being over 30 years old, giving Hennessy X.O. a deep and complex flavor of dried fruit, orange peel, cinnamon, roasted caramel while the finish is long and intense.

Cognac Hennessy Paradis: These luxury distillates can reach up to 100 years building a silky fruit and floral aroma. Honey, truffles, pineapple, passion fruit and cardamom form an extremely cohesive whole, and the elegant long finish only completes the overall composition.

Hennessy price

Hennessy cognac is undoubtedly the world leader among cognacs, its price is influenced by many factors: the reputation of the brand, the quality of the distillates used, the length of aging of the liquor and whether we are dealing with a limited, special or collector's edition. In the case of the Jas Hennessy & Co. brand, the price is primarily affected by the age of the distillate. As follows:

V.S. - the brand's bestseller, which includes distillates as old as four years, and its price ranges from 180-250zl.

V.S.O.P. - the more mature brother in the brand's portfolio, its distillates reaching up to 15 years. Prices of Hennessy V.S.O.P range from 300-350zl.

X.O. - is the best cognac of the basic editions of Hennessy. In this case we are talking about prices in the range of 1000-1400zl.

Other special or limited editions start at 200zl and go up to several thousand zlotys.
