Description Limoncello Liqueur

Limoncello - a true taste of the vacations

Limoncello is a liqueur made from the thick, juicy peels of lemons macerated in alcohol. Limoncello originated in Campania, Italy, and today this Italian delicacy is produced mainly in southern Italy, where it is warmest and the best lemons grow. Limoncello has an appetizing, strong yellow color and is full of the flavors and aromas of sugar-free lemonade and candied citrus zest with literally a slight acidity that balances everything nicely. That's why limoncello, contrary to appearances, is not sour like a lemon, but pleasantly refreshing. Limoncello has around 30% alcohol, but it is so juicy that you absolutely do not feel the percentages. So how does one drink limoncello? It can calmly be served solo or after a meal, necessarily heavily chilled.

Limoncello is delicious on its own, but it works perfectly in drinks. The most popular limoncello drink is the so-called limoncello spritz. It is made in a similar way to aperol spritz.

  • Pour 50ml of limoncello, 150ml of prosecco and 50ml of heavily carbonated water into a glass with ice.
  • Add lemon and mint to the glass. And there you have it! Do you see how simple it is?
If you prefer to try a limoncello drink in a bittersweet version, try Limoncello Gin Collins:
  • Add ice, mint leaves and lemon slices to a glass, then add 50ml lemon juice, 50ml sparkling water, 50ml limoncello, 30ml gin and 30ml mint syrup. Stir everything and you're done!
What else can limoncello be used for? Like amaretto liqueur, limoncello can be used to soak sponge cakes under desserts. You can pour a small amount of limoncello into ice cream or sorbet and stir everything - then the ice cream balls can be perfectly arranged and formed.

How to make good limoncello?

Limoncello is a liqueur that you can prepare at home very easily. That's why we are happy to give you the recipe for the perfect, juicy limoncello.

To make limoncello you need:

  • about 15 lemons
  • a liter of 60-70% spirit (if you only have the famous 95% you should dilute it)
  • 700g of sugar
  • one and a half liter of water
The lemons should first be scrubbed decently in hot water - scorching the lemons will bring out the best flavor. Later, the lemons should be peeled very thinly and try to make sure that there is no white, bitter flesh on the peel. Put all the peels in a large jar, pour spirit and set aside in a dark place for three weeks. And do not let you be tempted to open the jar until then. After this time, boil water with sugar to make a thick syrup. Set it aside to cool and set, and then you can finally open the jar of lemonade. Strain everything and combine it with the syrup. Pour the liqueur into bottles, seal and you're done! Here is the recipe for the perfect limoncello.
