This grape variety is grown both in Europe and in the New World. The origin of gewürztraminer is not fully known. It is said to owe its name to the village of Tramin. Its roots are sought in several countries: in Italy, Austria and Germany, where it is extremely popular. The most famous wines come from France, from the aforementioned Alsace. The gewurztraminers here are a bit heavier and oily. As a curiosity, we will add that gewurztraminer is even found in Polish vineyards. Outside Europe, the grape is planted in California, Australia and New Zealand. There they are often used to enrich less expressive varieties. It can happen that we come across gewutrzaminer from unusual places, like Chile or South Africa. Unusual because the vine is not fond of warm climates. Nor is it easy to grow. It ripens early, is subject to frosts, has low yields and is susceptible to various infections. It is not at all a popular choice among winemakers, despite the fact that gewurztraminer is known all over the world

.What are its characteristics?

It has a peculiar appearance - a slightly pink skin falling even into the red color. As a result, the wine is characterized by an intense golden color. Like sauvignon blanc, gewurztraminer also has such a specific taste and smell that it is easy to recognize. A typical gewurztraminer wine has an aroma reminiscent of roses and lychee fruit. It can also have notes of lilac, anise, passion fruit, marzipan and even honey. Especially when it is from a late harvest. Gewurztraminer can take on different styles. The wine can be dry, expressive, crisp but also sweet, and even oily and dense

.When to choose gewurztraminer?

Gewurztraminer suits many occasions. It can be a gift or a wine for casual, casual gatherings. In addition, it is also dedicated to strongly diverse dishes. From fish, seafood and chicken to spicy dishes and Asian cuisine. So if you are planning to have sushi for dinner, gewurztraminer is a good choice. On the other hand, the wine also goes well with sweet accents in dishes, so it's a popular choice for holiday cakes. It can also be an aperitif. There are few wines that can cope with such a large number of dishes and occasions

.What to follow when choosing a gewurztraminer wine?

Gewurztraminer is such a grape variety that offers many styles of wine. You may find that this one variety suits many different occasions. And it's up to them to decide which wine is best to choose. If you're looking for something refreshing, to drink every day in the summer, you might want to try a German gewurztraminer, for example. For more aromatic, or even sweet, you need to reach for offerings from Italy or France. Such wines will be a perfect gift but also a great companion for meetings. Especially with dessert. When we are looking for that sweet taste but less intense, you can reach for a less typical gewurztraminer from Chile

.Where to look for gewurztraminer wines?

It is best to go to a specialized store. Gewurztraminer will be available there from several regions and in different styles. In addition to a wide range of products, in such a place you can still count on expert advice. Specialists will help you choose the right wine for the occasion or the dish.
