The wines from Alvarinho are dominated by a light structure, pronounced acidity and an expressive, fruity character full of citrus, melon and nectarines. There is also often a salty, slightly mineral accent on the finish

.Characteristics of Alvarinho wineThe Alvarinho grape

is one of those more difficult to grow. Winemakers struggle with the small size of the fruit and the thin skin of the grape, making the vine vulnerable to disease. A skilled winemaker's hand, however, combined with the cool climate and stately sunshine yields excellent results, making their wines long-lived, with high aging potential for white wines and a character that perfectly reflects the local terroir. Interestingly, Alvarinho's oldest vines are over 300 years old, demonstrating the strength and longevity of the vine, which has adapted to combat the harsh climatic conditions.

The above conditions combined with the proximity of the ocean have a direct bearing on the taste qualities of Alvarinho wine. It is characterized by a fresh character with a full bouquet of aromas of lemon peel, melon or nectarines, finishing with a delicate salty finish. In the mouth, meanwhile, a pronounced, refreshing acidity complements the wine's relatively light texture.

The acidity contained in the grape, as well as the amount of phenols in the fruit shortening, make Alvarinho boast a tendency to linger long in the cellar. During the maturation process, the wine will begin to lose its expressive character, instead developing ripe aromas of honey, wax and nuts.

In Galician Spain, under the appellation of Rias Baixas D.O., you will find wines from this grape under the name Albarino. There, the aromas include intense nectarine and peach, while the delicate texture provides a long pleasure on the finish

.With what to pair Alvarinho wine

Alvarinho wine goes exceedingly well with seafood. A plate of shellfish, mussels or oysters will be the perfect accompaniment for this pairing. In addition, it is worth remembering the delicate fish, including the raw version, so sushi or ceviche will be an equally good idea.

Pairing Alvarinho with cheeses, the best way will be semi-hard cheeses in the style of manchego or feta, but also salty harder cheeses will fit deliciously, especially in the form of flakes on a salad.

In addition, Alvarinho wines are also worth remembering during hot days, when we need refreshment during a quiet evening relaxation alone or with friends. The towering nature of the wine will take care of our proper well-being

.Alvarinho for all occasionsThe versatility of

the wines, as well as the attractive price of Alvarinho, makes it an extremely tempting choice in the category of white wines. It is ideal as an aperitif and for consumption on its own in the privacy of the home or when meeting with friends. The wine's expressive qualities in the form of citrus fruit and marked acidity in turn beg to be accompanied by fruit, fish or light meat dishes. In addition, the structure of the grape provides the wine with very high aging potential, so that Alvarinho will develop over time and acquire a mature, elegant character.
