Wine Vega Sicilia Unico Gran Reserva Ribera del Duero DO Magnum 2004

Viticulture at the Vega Sicilia estate for the production of Unico covers more than 40 hectares. The minimum aging process, both in barrels and bottles, is 10 years. It is probably the longest in the world. The production uses 225-liter French and American oak barrels, both new and used. Unico was aged in bottle for an additional two years and as a result presents us with excellence, abundance and silkiness of body, deep, beautiful color and unique aromas worth keeping in memory for as long as possible.

As for 2004, it was a year of a particularly cold winter, with frequent snow and rain as late as the end of February. The budding began in late April, when temperatures rose. There was little precipitation in the spring, although temperatures were exceptionally high. Nights in late May and early June were still cool, however, which fortunately did not harm the plants. The high temperatures continued throughout June, when early flowering began, until August, when budding took place. Harvesting began in early September.

The wine is ready to drink right away, but the bottles can still be stored for about 40-60 years, of course under the right conditions-at a constant temperature of 12-14 ºC with 60% humidity and protected from direct light.
