Wine Vega Sicilia Alion Ribera del Duero DO 3L 2011

The Alion line of wines was launched with the 1991 vintage by the famous producer Vega Sicilia. Pablo Alvarez, the owner of Vega Sicilia was inspired by the modern-classic style of top Bordeaux wines, and wanted to achieve the same style of wine in the climate and soils of western Ribera del Duero. Half of the grapes used to make Alion wines come from the Vega Sicilia vineyards, and the other half from the Alion vineyard near Panafiel. The winemaker is Javiera Ausas, Vega Sicilia's chief winemaker. Alion is the most modern winery in the Vega Sicilia group, and the ALION'11 3L RESERVA RIBERA DEL DUERO wine captures its spirit: it is modern, rich and seductive. Alion's 2011 wine was made exclusively from the Tempranillo varietal, with an average vine age of 25 to 30 years. The harvest took place quite early, in the second half of September, then the wine was aged for 14 months in new French oak barrels.

The sucre is deep red in color with violet refexes. The nose is elegant, full-bodied and lively. A wide range of aromas even bursts from the glass. The vintage is extremely successful. Aromas of violets, molasses, cereals and malt whiskey appear in the wine. Smoky notes can also be felt, with nuances of very good barrels, black olives and fresh plums appear, notes of vanilla and ripe red fruits. An association with syrups and jams of ripe fruits comes to mind. The palate is tannic. At the same time, the tannins are elegant and harmonious, with milky and warm flavors, and the finish is long. Alion'15 Ribera del Duero wine pairs perfectly with beef, lamb or game dishes. The wine should be served at 16 degrees.
