Description Masi Riserva di Costasera DOCG Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2017

Costasera Amarone Riserva is a majestic, multidimensional and complex Italian wine of the highest order, absolutely delightful. A specialized use of grapes indigenous to the Valpolicella Classico area - Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, which were enriched by the addition of the unique Oseleta variety. Produced using the famous appassimento method of drying the grapes to concentrate the aromas before the subsequent vinification process. Matured for a minimum of 3 years in oak barrels.

Distinctly deep red in color, with violet and garnet highlights. On the nose we get aromas of cherry and plum with subtle nuances of bay leaves, vanilla and cinnamon. Absolutely majestic, multidimensional, changing every now and then in the glass. The finish is very long, with perceptible roasted cherries and sweet spices.

The uncommon character of this wine allows for extremely versatile pairing with meals - it will go perfectly with red meat, game, aged cheeses, but also with classics of Italian cuisine - pastas or risotto. Smooth and pleasant taste will also make a solo tasting more enjoyable - after the meal.

Wine reviews of Masi Riserva di Costasera DOCG Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2017

"A dark shiny ruby red in the glass. On the nose, ripe cherry, rum, plum and cranberry fruit with a hint of leather. On the palate with juicy fruit and tightly structured tannins. Extremely juicy on the finish." - Falstaff

Masi Agricola Vineyard

Masi Agricola is a wine producer in Veneto, northern Italy. It is known for its Valpolicella wines - and particularly its Amarone wines - although it draws from a wide range of indigenous and international grape varieties, from Corvina and Pinot Grigio to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The property is owned by the Boscaini family, which named it after the Vaio de Masi valley that was part of the original purchase. Now Masi owns vineyards throughout the region, including the Bardolino Classico and Soave Classico DOC zones and Valpolicelli. Since the 1950s, Masi has owned several "cru" vineyards that produce Amarone wines from a single vineyard. This type of classification, widely used in France, has become popular in Italy in recent years - Barolo wines are also often labeled this way.

Masi's cellars are specially geared to the appassimento technique, drying grapes on bamboo racks. Through controlled temperature and humidity with sufficient ventilation, the process of drying the grapes is made possible.
